I know it has been forever since I have posted. I've been so busy with other things my painting time has been very limited. I've been painting but it has involved kitchen cabinets instead. I'm trying to finish this one. I don't work with deadlines tho. I know when I'm done with a painting and you just can't rush that. I'll re post this when it's complete.

I've been so busy here lately I haven't had a chance to paint. Finally got 6 hours in. About two hours to lay it out in pencil and four yesterday in paint.

Waiting on the paint to dry so I can varnish this one. It was actually a challenge trying to get a likeness on faces that are 1" instead of my usual 6-7"

Finished this small portrait this week. It is 10"x12". Not really framed yet, I just stuck this graphic on it. Will have to let it dry first and varnish. It is in oil. It was a lot of fun to paint!

This was fun to do but not easy. I decided to use some of Carrie's Charcoal in this piece. I still have all her art supplies. I thought it might be a nice touch for Isla. Haven't used charcoal before, so it was a learning experience.

Took my Grand Daughter her portrait today after having it framed. We sat it next to the one of her brother. She kept looking up at it and saying "That's me!"

The paint is still wet on this one.

I could tinker with this painting forever but decided today to call it quits. After cutting the canvas down and putting it on another frame and changing the color of the dress completely, I think enough is enough and I'm ready to move onto something else. Now to let it dry and varnish and frame.

Finished our newest Grand Daughter's Baby Sampler today. Alice in Wonderland is the theme. We did Beatrix Potter for Mari and Winnie the Pooh for Jake. I don't think I posted them here, so I will just post them all. It's not a good photo of Jakes but I forgot to take a better one.

I am quite speechless with this portrait by Graham Hanks I love so much about it. I think it definitely looks like me and love the incorporation of the Coffee House logo and gold being my favorite color. He also kept in my favorite amber necklace that I wear all the time and earrings. Well done Graham and thank you so much!

Just a quick sketch I did this morning. Trying out the old color pencils and remembering how I don't like to use them. The paper will only hold so much colored pencil then it quits. With acrylic paint I can go over it and over it and over it again. Ha!

I'm reading "A Painter's Odyssey, The Art of Marshall Bouldin III." I like what he says, "The difference between the image of a person and a portrait of a person is you get the feeling of that person with a portrait. And you have to get that feeling to come out. Most people do not look at you at all. They know who you are and they store it back there in their mind, they recognize you. Why do they recognize you? Very few people can really describe your physical features. That happens to everybody. Your eyes focus here and focus there, and you really don't look at them all at once, I get this feeling quite a bit. If I've got that feeling of that person in the painting, then I've got a portrait. "

By the way, I'm going to hear his son lecture this Thursday in Tupelo. Looking forward to it.

It was my turn to display my artwork at the Banks this month. Here is the Obama Painting. The painting of Jake is at another bank but it wasn't convenient to take photos there.
The good news is that I have a potential buyer for the Obama Painting!

I'm having some fun with color and painting some Red Hat Ladies. These ladies were sitting in a Christmas Float a year or so ago and I've wanted to paint them for a while. I'm not even sure who two of the ladies are. It might be one that ends up in the Fulton Court House, just for fun. I talked the Court House into installing 20 hangers on the downstairs walls for the local Artists to display their Art. Called up 10 Artists I know and now the walls don't look like a prison. A win/win for both Artists and the Court House I think. People are always in there paying taxes etc.

This is the first in a series of paintings I am doing titled "Ozymandias' Children". It is a portrait of the famous weeping angel from the Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, Mississippi. You can google actual photos of the angel. I'll post again when it is finished. This is just to let you know I'm still around as I haven't posted in a while. Below is what started getting signatures to go along with the Obama Portrait to raise money for Carrie's Coffee House. My brother has been writing some letters.

"Dear Tony,

I am writing on behalf of and in support of my sister, who now lives in America. I have met you briefly in my capacity as a mental health worker in the NHS and long time supporter of the party. My sister Alison, has been living in the USA for many years. My sister lost her daughter Carrie in a car accident and ever since her and Mike her husband have provided the most fantastic place for kids to hang out in a safe environment in her memory. This is completely voluntary and is difficult for both to continue the commitment in time and money! Today the Northeast Mississippi Art Association had the Reception for the March Contest / Show. I won 2nd place in Photography.

And I won 1st place in Colored Pencil. This is the Mayor of Tupelo in the photo with the winners.

On Holiday in Scotland

It was a choice between the Rugby, Scotland vs Ireland and going to the National Portrait Gallery. I had a great time at the Gallery with Mum for a couple of hours and Scotland lost.

Well, I finished this painting of my friend's daughter Cara today. I'm never satisfied but I think it's time to stop. It is 16x20" on stretched canvas, done with Acrylic. My style of painting is not meant to be viewed up close but I think looks better from a distance.

Today is a Holiday here in the USA. It is Martin Luther King Jr's 80th Birthday. I had an Art Meeting at 1pm so arranged with the Mall at Barnes Crossing to take my Portrait to the Mall and have folks sign their good wishes to the President Elect after the meeting. Here is a short video of the folks that signed the portrait. I'm happy with the result. It is now finished and For Sale. Email me if you are interested. Part of the proceeds will go towards Carrie's Coffee House (see link in my profile).

A great tip for Acrylic Painters

I learned about this tip from another Acrylic Artist but thought it was good enough to pass on. Everyone knows the advantage of acrylic paint is that it dries quickly, which can also turn out to be a disadvantage. When I did the Obama painting I saved some of the background color in a plastic container just in case I needed to touch up later and was amazed that it was still usable as long as I had the lid on it, even weeks later. So when I learned about other Artists using these containers I went to Sams to get some. I was a bit disappointed at the price, around $22 per box and I don't really need 2000. My husband bought these for me in the end. Perhaps Artists/Art Clubs could pull together and split the price and quantity up. Anyway, I look forward to saving paint in the future.

This is my second attempt with Acrylic. It is 30"x40". For his Inauguration I'm going to get folks to write things on the background. Then it will not only be a portrait but a piece of History.
