Finally, here is the work in progress video of the painting of Tu Bardh from Clanadonia. The inspiration for the painting came from a tour of the Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh and also the Kelvingrove Art Gallery where I enjoyed the portraits from around the 18th Century on show from artists such as Allan Ramsay and Gavin Hamilton. I thought it would be fun to paint a portrait in the old style but of someone alive today. Tu Bardh came to mind after watching Clanadonia play on the streets of Glasgow. By chance they were going to play at Dunoon Cowal Games and I was going to be in Dunoon at the same time, so I contacted them and asked if I could have a photo shoot for the painting. I took the photos back home to Mississippi to complete the painting.
I had the idea for the frame in mind after seeing John Singer Sargent's painting of Lady Macbeth. After checking locally I contacted on old friend who I met when I worked in the Sign Shop. I knew he would know who I could contact to make a frame like I wanted. It turned out he could make it himself and took it upon himself to do so. He did a great job and spent a lot of time on the frame.
So here is the finished result.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to enter it in the competition I wanted as the rules stated part of it had to be painted from life and I used photos. It will be interesting to see where this painting ends up.
