Gavin Hamilton, Artist, B. 1723

For years I have admired the work of famous Scottish Artists, (18th Century) such as Gavin Hamilton.  I love to see his work when visiting the Portrait Gallery or Kelvingrove in Scotland.  Recently I came across this painting of Lady Juliana Dawkins by the artist.  I am so in love with this painting, I would have loved to have painted it.  It did remind me a bit of the painting I did of wee Alice and that got me thinking about the name Hamilton.  Not to sound too presumptuous but wouldn't it be neat if I was actually related somehow to the Artist.  My grandmother was a Hamilton from the same area and she was an artist.  Alas I found no way of checking the connection.  Gavin Hamilton did not seem to have any children, neither did his siblings, so it would be a matter of going back to his father Alexander Hamilton, 1693 to find out if he had brothers or sister and going from there.  On my Grans line I can go back to William, John, John, and another John Hamilton born 1797.   Oh well.  It's nice to dream that I have a famous relative.  Ha!
